BlanketNewOrleans.Org presents BikeKatrina (Aug. 25 - 29, 2008): an annual fundraising initiative recognizing the 3rd Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
BikeKatrina is a 250-mile bike ride that will retrace the storm path of Hurricane Katrina from Pensacola to New Orleans.

Direct Service Missions:
*Georgetown Univ. Chapter, Spring Break Jazz® 2008
Students, Staff and Faculty volunteers help rehab the interior of homes for senior citizens and needy families, learn more about the recovery effort taking place throughout the Gulf Coast region, and enjoy our amazing New Orleans’ food and culture. Come fall in love with the hometown of Louis Armstrong. Rebuilding homes throughout the city of New Orleans presents a tremendous opportunity for community service and civic engagement. Organizational Developments
Direct Humanitarian Relief:
*Completed more than 1,000 hours of service in New Orleans
*Completely gutted more than 15 homes
*Adopted the home of Ms. Paulette Davis, remodeling her kitchen and two bathrooms
*Organized 8 direct service trip
*Provided 400 & 220 (Gustav) new blankets to families displaced by hurricane damage
*Provided 1,000 (Gustav) bottles of water to shelters and evacuation points of distribution
*Provided 50 care packages of Kleenex and Hand Sanitizer containers
*Provided 100 new toothbrushes along with toothpaste kits through a dental hygiene grant
Community Advocacy:
*Building The Blanket New Orleans Green Service House - a neighborhood resource center
*Continuously advocating for greater investment in New Orleans throughout the country
*Participated in Urban Planning & Renewal Meeting at Tulane School of Architecture, 2006
*Marched and spoke at The Right To Return - Right To Reconstruction Rally, 2007
Organizational Highlights:
*Finished The 2006 and The 2007 Mardi Gras Maratho
*Completed our 1st annual journey for justice through the Gulf Coast, BikeKatrina 2007
*Produced 14 videos regarding our relief efforts
*Recognized more than 20 times in print and or online news media outlets
